Still not enough NFA rice for cardholders in Dagupan

MORE government rice, please.

This was the call of residents who noted that the rice being allocated by the National Food Authority to its three Bigasang Bayan outlets in Dagupan is simply not enough.

This was noted on Wednesday when many of those who lined up to buy rice from two of three Bigasang Bayan outlets went home empty-handed.

That day, only the rice store of Gina Siapno, chapter president of the Alyansa ng mga Magbibigas and Lolita Ramos were given their allocations of 30 bags each.

Lito Doria, a member of the Palengke Watch Team of the NFA, admitted that the supply is not even enough to serve the requirements of families who were granted control cards.

Only 1,500 people were able to buy rice at two kilos each for P18.25 per kilo from the two outlets. At least 100 buyers failed to buy rice.

Doria advised those who failed to buy any to return to the market the following day and buy from the store of Ronaldo Barcellano, another Bigasang Bayan outlet.

Barcellano was allocated 30 bags of NFA rice on Thursday and also complained about the shortage in supply regularly allocated to him.

Rice being sold by the Bigasang Bayan is white rice imported from Thailand.

Meanwhile, Siapno revealed that the price of commercial rice in the market has started to decline owing largely to the big volume of imported rice now flooding the country.

She said the commercial rice nowadays is priced at P31 (from P32). —LM
