MEMBERS of the Sangguniang Kabataan in Dagupan were dared to disprove critics and officials who are seeking the abolition of the youth organization.

Speaking during an SK orientation seminar in Dagupan sponsored by the Department of Interior and Local Government, Carlos Fernandez, president of the city’s SK league, said members should work doubly hard to show their worth to their respective communities.

Fernandez, a grandchild of Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., said after the election, there were those who backed up a bill filed in Congress calling for the abolition of SK for allegedly being useless and whose work can easily be done by the barangay chairman.

He said to prove the critics wrong, the SK members must unite and pool their energies to do worthwhile community projects that will benefit the people.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, who was guest of honor and speaker during the orientation seminar held at the Dagupan City Museum, cited the SK’s important role in educating the people, fighting illegal drugs, and eradicating juvenile delinquency.

She said the city council is ready to support the SK in worthwhile programs and projects they envision for the good of their communities.-LM
