Pista’y Dayat ‘tiangge’ vendors decry poor relocation
Win some, lose some.
While many sectors have applauded the changes and innovations introduced in this year’s celebration of the Pista’y Dayat through the initiative of Governor Amado Espino Jr., there are some who are not too happy about the modifications.
Tiangge vendors complained that they earned less this year following there location of the trade fair from the capitol grounds to the area fronting the Pangasinan State University.
Jenny Mendyguarin, a regular ‘tiangge’ participant in the annual May 1 festival for the past four years, said her income this year was less than in previous years because the new location did not attract enough crowds.
The sellers noted that the prospective customers did not find it safe shopping at the sidewalk where ‘tiange’ stalls were positioned, because of the volume of vehicular traffic allowed through the area.
Leo Ramirez, head organizer of the Pista’y Dayat, defended the relocation saying the governor saw the need to maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the capitol grounds.
Jerome Bautista, a security guard at the Urduja House over the past eight years, expressed his support for the relocation of the ‘tiangge’ away from the capitol grounds having noted how the ‘tiangge’ vendors mindlessly accumulated and disposed of their trash littering capitol grounds with it. UPB
