Okinawan Grandmasters here May 8 for Mayor’s Cup

Local karate players and aficionados will be treated to an entirely new form and discipline when six grandmasters of the Okinawan Shorin-ryu Karate-do Association (OSKA) arrive in Dagupan City on May 8 to12 for the 3rd Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. Karate-do Cup to be held at the People’s Astrodome.

The grandmasters will also help preside over the seminar to be hosted by OSKA Philippines, also at the astrodome, after the events.

The Philippine visit of the Okinawan grandmasters is part of their on-going mission to propagate shorin-ryu karate and discipline around the world.

The whole event is sponsored by the OSKA Philippines/Middle East Chapter chaired by Dominador Caballero Jr., OSKA Philippines Chapter presided by Dr. Sherloc Malapitan, WOMA USA with founder/chairman Dr. Soke Mohammad Tianero, and WOMA USA president Reynaldo Diaz, also the OSKA Middle East President.

The event also includes examination for international ranking and seminar at La Salle Greenhills on May 9-10, seminar and tournament for the 3rd Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. Karate-do Cup, and a Tour of the Hundred Islands in Alaminos with event co-sponsor Mayor Hernani Braganza.

OSKA has its headquarters in Naha City, Okinawa, Japan and is under the headship of Katsuya Miyahira, Hanshi, 10th Dan.

His maxims of Gouri (reason), Gouho (legal or true form), Kiyoson (cooperation) and Kiyoye (fellowship, friendship) are the foundation stones of Shido Kan Karate.

Jessie Cacapit is the Project Director of the GM and Masters Dagupan and Alaminos Cities visit while Leo Ranga Jr. is the Tournament Director.—EMMANUELLE
