Super Region photo exhibit featured in Pista’y Dayat

LINGAYEN—The first ever photo exhibit on the Super Region Program of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo featuring the North Luzon Agri-business Quadrangle (NLAQ) opened at the lst Tourism and Trade Expo, a part of the province’s Pista’y Dayat celebration.
Put up by the Presidential Press Staff of the News and Information Bureau under the Office of the Press Secretary, the exhibit features photos of the various strides being undertaken by the government to realize the vision and objectives of NLAQ.
Undersecretary Anthony Golez, deputy presidential spokesperson, cut the ceremonial ribbon that opened the exhibit, along with Governor Amado Espino Jr., Vice Governor Marlyn Primicias-Agabas and other officials of the provincial government.
Governor Espino hailed the photo exhibit as a testament to the strong determination of the administration to push the Super Region Program.
NLAQ, whose development czar is Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap, was conceived to be the source of food not only for the Metro Manila but also for the other super regions in the country.
The NLAQ Super Region is composed of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Regions I and II, and portions of Region III, specifically the northern municipalities of Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac and Zambales.
There are currently 23 major infrastructure projects in NLAQ with a total estimated cost of P56.8 billion.
This involves the construction of three major road projects, seven airports, three ports, four major irrigation projects, three power projects, two flood control projects and one cold chain system.
Also included are small-scale irrigation and farm-to-market roads.
The fusion of these infrastructure projects will hasten the delivery of agricultural produce from farm to markets, reduce transport costs, cut travel time, and increase farmers’ incomes.
The upgrading of the Poro Point Airport into an international airport is now in the early civil work stages.
Projects that were already accomplished under NLAQ are Packages 3 and 4 of the Agno Flood Control Project Phase II-A in Pangasinan, and Package 1 of the Laoag Flood Control Project in Ilocos Norte.
More than 90% completed is the Casecnan Multi-purpose Irrigation and Power Project in Nueva Ecija while the Banaoag Pump Irrigation Project in Ilocos Sur is now 88% complete.—LM
