Agbayani acts vs docs as pharmacy agents

LINGAYEN – To protect the public from counterfeit or fake medicines, Gov. Victor Agbayani has issued a strict order, directing all doctors in provincial government-run hospitals to begin issuing prescriptions to their patients for medicines that can be sourced out from their hospital pharmacies.

Provincial Administrator Virgilio Solis said the governor made the order in the face of the reported proliferation of counterfeit medicines and the penchant of doctors to direct their patient to buy from selected pharmacies usually owned by them.

Solis said the governor’s directive was sought by Dr. Jackson Soriano, chief of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City.

But he clarified the governor’s directive was not meant to hurt the live lihood of owners of pharmacies which are teeming in front of government hospitals.

Solis pointed out that the directive is also aimed at helping poor patients by providing them with cheaper medicines.
