Archbishop slams PGMA on claims
Thou shalt not use the name of God in vain.
This was the unsolicited advice Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz to President Gloria Arroyo after she claimed that her being President was part of God’s plan for her and for the country.
Reacting to Mrs. Arroyo’s earlier statement that she is the best person to lead the country, and recently that it was God’s plan for her and the country for her to lead the Filipino nation, Cruz said,” “While I respect her conviction that it is God all along talking to her on what to do, God seems to be cruel to the Filipino people because under her presidency, there is the calibrated pre-emptive response, EO 464, and recently Proclamation 1017″.
“All those means are oppressive to human dignity and one of the greatest truths God respects is human dignity,” he said.
Cruz said her latest claim reminded him of the time when Mrs. Arroyo also invoked God’s plan when she announced she would not run for president in 2004, citing three intentions namely to unite the people, to improve the economy and to reform the Comelec (Commission on Elections).”
“Later God told her she should run as God apparently changed His mind based on Mrs. Arroyo’s decision to run (after all),” Cruz said. – EVA
