Story of hope

Death is the one sure thing.

And it is precisely this certainty that Jesus Christ triumphed over in His resurrection based on the Catholic faith.

Which is why Easter Sunday, the day Christ conquered death, is actually the core of Catholicism more than Christmas, the celebration of the birth of the Savior. While Christmas is a tale of promise, Easter Sunday is the fulfillment of that promise, a story of definite hope.

And hope is something that our country desperately needs at this time.

As greed and corruption continue to hound our system of governance despite two peaceful People Power struggles that called for the ouster of misguided leaders, the people need to keep believing that even the greatest and deepest of evils can be defeated.

But hope and victory do not come easy.

Just as Christ had to endure the suffering entailed by his Passion, so too must we bear the sacrifices called for by our fight for truth, honesty and integrity.

It would be easier to just set our torches down and deceive ourselves with the blind belief that good governance will simply come upon us like some miracle.

The more difficult option is to keep the flame burning and carry on with our moves to demand not just the truth but accountability where misdeeds have been committed. It is only by making the culprits accountable that we can begin to change the system that has long been steeped in corruption.

Our actions will have to be propelled by hope.

And we can believe that there is hope to transform the system especially today because we are celebrating Easter Sunday, a day that reminds us that nothing, not even death, is insurmountable.
