Decano intensifies campaign vs. prostitution in Dagupan
DAGUPAN City Councilor Farah Marie Decano, author of the Anti-Flesh Ordinance, has called for parallel teams that will help curb human trafficking and prostitution in the city and the neighboring town of Binmaley.
In an interview with The PUNCH, Decano said she has sent a request to “higher ups” in the Philippine National Police to finally catch “the big fish” behind this illegal trade.
Decano complained when raids were conducted in more than 30entertainment joints operating in the city, only the women employed as guest relations officers but performers of lewd shows were arrested while the operators remained untouched.
In her unrelenting campaign against prostitution, Decano has initiated the posting of banners in conspicuous areas in the city that carry messages like “Pinaparusahan ngayon ang mga customers ng prostitusyon” and “Isuplong ang mga establisyementong nagbebenta ng laman”.
She said the local Anti-Flesh Trade Ordinance passed in March 2007 gives more teeth to the existing law but the results of the campaign leaves much more to be desired and she called on the city police to be more committed to the task.
Meanwhile, in Binmaley, Mayor Simplicio Rosario met with videoke bar and restaurant owners Tuesday to inform them of his order to close establishments found employing guest relation officers engaged in prostitution after the Holy Week observance.#
