The University of Pangasinan (UPang) has “chalked up 83 years of missionary work in the education of the Filipino youth in this part and is still going strong.”

UPang chairman Cesar T. Duque proudly made this statement after a thanksgiving prayer and the faculty’s restatement of commitment to academic excellence during the university’s founding anniversary celebration last month.

Dr. Catalino Rivera Jr., who presided over a lecture series on the university’s continuing program to upgrade the teaching competencies of its faculty and to boost its successful overseas program, underscored the university’s outreach program.

The university’s program seeks to expand the opportunities for graduates who have been prepared to compete in the global job market.

Bernadette Cabugao, dean of the school of nursing, reported that according to the Philippine Regulation Commission, the university again gained recognition as having the highest number of board examination passers in Pangasinan.

One of UPang’s successful nursing graduates, Helen Jimenez-Dichoso, who hails from eastern Pangasinan and now based in Houston, Texas, operates a dialysis center which employs several people in the medical field.

The university has consistently produced top board placers in all the professions over the years. Gringo Sandiego, a nursing graduate, topped a recent board exam.

Last year, UPang’s choir tied with Russia in a world choir competition.

The university, under the original owner, the late Dr. Blas F. Rayos, has begun a tradition of academic excellence and has since soared to greater heights with Duque at the helm.

Actively managing the university with Dr. Rivera are Dr. Marietta Sorio, senior vice president, and Dean for Academic Affairs Ofelia Rayos, and Director Dominador Rayos.#
