Seafood processing plant construction starts in June
Construction of the proposed seafood processing facility in Dagupan has been scheduled to start by June, according to Mayor Alipio Fernandez, Jr.
The mayor said they met with representatives from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), which will provide the funds and the Department of Agriculture (DA) last week to finalize the project’s plans.
A $2.2 million grant assistance from the Government of Republic of Korea will be issued through KOICA.
Fernandez said KOICA representatives have already completed evaluation of the project, including refrigeration and processing machine requirements and the volume of expected production.
An agreement between KOICA’s resident representative, Mr. Kim In, and the DA led by Secretary Arthur Yap, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) head Malcolm Sarmiento, and Dr. Westly Rosario of the BFAR research center located in Dagupan, has already been signed.
The site for the seafood processing plant will be a 1,600 square-meter lot in barangay Bonuan Binloc.
The seafood processing plant is designed to handle marine products, with particular focus on bangus, not just from the city but from the seafood producing towns in the province.—CSR
