San Carlos has new councilor

SAN CARLOS CITY—Mrs. Natividad Arenas has been sworn in as the newest city councilor here to take the place of her late husband, Councilor Alfredo Arenas, who died November 12 last year.

Arenas, 64, a retired public school teacher, took her oath on Monday before Governor Amado Espino Jr. at the Urduja House in Lingayen.

A native of barangay Nelintap here, Arenas will serve the unexpired term of her late husband.

Her succession to the post was in pursuant to Section 45 of Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code.

Mayor Julier Resuello who heads the Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats Party in the city which the late councilor was affiliated with, nominated Arenas.

The new city councilor once served as consultant on education to the city mayor.

Upon her assumption to the city council, she was named chairman of the city council’s committee on Senior Citizens.

“I shall work for the betterment of women, children, and senior citizens,” Arenas pledged.-LM
