STA.BARBARA–Corn farmers here will soon have access to a public tractor intended to boost the town’s production.

According to municipal administrator Albertini de Guzman, P2-million tractor will be turned over by the local government unit (LGU) here to the office of the municipal agriculturist today.

“Sta.Barbara has been identified as an area for corn production although hindi namin pinababayaan ang rice production,” he said.

The acquisition of the tractor was prompted by reports that the town’s farmers had to rent tractors from establishments in Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.

A project initiated by Mayor Reynaldo Velasco and the Department of Agriculture (DA), the new tractor will be rented out to the farmers at a lower cost.

De Guzman said the town paid P1.4-M while the DA gave P1.2-M for the purchase of the tractor.

FIRE TRUCKS

Meanwhile, Velasco last week formally inaugurated the town’s new fire station and a newly refurbished fire truck.

The construction of the office of the fire department came from the proceeds of the last year’s popularity contest.

The town is now setting its eyes on a brand new fire truck from the Bureau of Fire Protection.—CSR
