Pangasinan to join NBC league

NEGOTIATIONS for the enlistment of Pangasinan in a national league called the “National Basketball Conference” are underway.

According to Rosendo So, interim treasurer of the Pangasinan Basketball Corporation (PBC) that will handle the newly formed amateur squad, the Pangasinan team will be called “Pangasinan Hundred Islands” and will be coached by Benjamin Dajose, Jr., assisted by Angel Gumarang, Allan Meimban and Joseph Pelaez.

The league, on its third year, is set to open simultaneously at Tagaytay City for the northern division teams and in Pagadian City for the southern division on March 10.

Dajose said the local squad will be composed of seven Pangasinenses, four of them named   by their last names – Ico, Gonzales, Balaris, Lopez, Tiongson. The team will be beefed up by players from different provinces including Manila.

Pangasinan will join the northern division with Taguig, Laguna, Manila, Tagaytay and Paranaque.

In the southern side, the teams are Pagadian, Cebu, Ozamis, Iligan, North Cotabato and Valencia.

The format of the games will be ‘home and away,’ ala the defunct professional league the Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA).
