PNP to form Task Force ‘Hagibis’
LINGAYEN – While most of the policemen in Manila are fighting the coup attempt, a select group of 31 policemen in Pangasinan are training on proper motorcycle handling so that they can effectively chase and neutralize motorcycle-riding criminals.
The trainees, fielded by the different police stations, will compose the first batch of the PNP Task Force Hagibis, a group being formed by Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt Alan Purisima to go after highway robbers and “guns-for-hire” on the loose.
Purisima organized Task Force Hagibis using the existing speed cops in every police station as the core group.
The organization of the task force was prompted by the series of hold-ups and assassinations in the highways perpetuated by motorcycle-riding men.
The 38-day training on offensive and defensive riding is being conducted by the Traffic Management Group headed by its provincial chief, Sr. Inspector Jose Manubay.
Manubay, a master motorcycle rider, said policemen must know how to handle their motorcycles if they are to fight armed highway criminals.
The training consists of lectures and practicum, which include motorcycle maneuvers along many road obstacles.
Manubay added that another batch of trainees is already scheduled to undergo the same seminar.
