LINGAYEN- The cops in the provincial and Dagupan City police stations have reason to crow.

Both the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office and the Dagupan City Police Station have been chosen recently as the country’s Best Police Provincial Office and Best City Police Station, respectively, by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez, provincial director, said they were informed about the citation on Tuesday, immediately after the result of the awarding committee’s evaluation was released.

Nerez expressed elation over the recognition and said he was confident that they would again bag the recognition.

This is the fourth time that the Pangasinan station will receive the same award, while the Dagupan station is already on its sixth.

Superintendent Dionicio Borromeo, Dagupan City police chief, in an interview with The PUNCH, said he is on “cloud nine” about the award.

Borromeo credited the station’s exemplary performance to the full support given by the city government to the police station in their community service, operations and anti-crime projects.

Nerez said his station will not simply rest on its laurels instead “the will serve as a challenge for us to maintain our good service to the people. This will enhance our capability to initiate projects with greater impact.”

Recognition was awarded for the two stations’ accomplishments particularly in service-related, infrastructure and community enhancement projects.

REGION 1

In a related development, the Region 1 police command, for the first time in PNP’s history, took the grand slam in the Best PNP Unit nationwide search by bagging five major awards.

Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, police regional director of the Ilocos region, told The PUNCH the Region 1 police was cited as the Best Police Regional Office (Police Regional Office 1 or PRO1), the Best Regional Mobile Group (Region 1 Mobile Group led by Senior Superintendent Edgar Basbas), the Best CIDG Regional Unit (under Senior Superintendent Marvin Bolabola), Best Police Provincial Office (Pangasinan Police Provincial Office under Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez) and Best City Police Station (Dagupan City Police Station headed by Superintendent Dionicio Borromeo).

Bataoil described 2007 as the shining moment of the Ilocos police.

The awards will be given during the celebration of PNP Day on Feb. 6 in Camp Crame with President Gloria Arroyo.#
