POZORRUBIO–A tragedy marked the first day of the year here.

Two boys were killed and two others were injured when a jeepney hit them along the provincial road in barangay Dilan here on the evening of January 1.

Reports reaching the Pangasinan PNP provincial office in Lingayen identified the fatalities as Renan Mejia, 11, and Richard Donato,15, while those injured were Michael John Datario,15 and Bryan Nagsagaray,13, all residents of Dilan.

Police reports indicate the victims were lying and sitting at the edge of the cemented road when they were hit by a northbound jeepney driven by Melchor Alcaide,39, of barangay Killo in Sison town.

The victims sustained injuries   and were brought to the Pozorrubio Municipal Hospital for treatment but Mejia and Donato were declared dead on arrival.

Datario was transferred to the Region I Medical Center in Dagupan City for further treatment while Nagsagaray was discharged from the hospital after treatment.

The driver voluntarily surrendered to police authorities with the vehicle involved.

Further investigation is being conducted by the police.

SAN FABIAN

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old man died while six others were injured when the tricycle they were riding was bumped by a speeding van along the provincial road in barangay Cabaruan, San Fabian on Tuesday night.

Reports identified the fatality as Romeo Aquino, driver of the tricycle and resident of barangay Mabanogbog, Urdaneta City.

  Those injured were identified as Marvin Carukrukan, Daisylyn Carukrukan, Maria Aquino, Eric Macasyet, Marlon Sanchez, and Malen Aquino, all residents of Urdaneta City.

Initial investigation by the police showed the tricycle was traversing the road when they were bumped by the speeding van, which fled towards an eastern direction.

The victims were rushed to the Region I Medical Center in Dagupan City where Romeo Aquino was declared dead on arrival.—CSR
