Woman loses millions to hold-up in San Carlos

SAN CARLOS CITY—A businesswoman engaged in foreign money exchange lost $80,000 and 90,000 Japanese yen to three still unidentified men who held her up in Barangay Ano here while on board her vehicle morning of December 27.

The suspects, whose faces were covered with handkerchiefs, were on a motorcycle which they used to block the pick-up truck of the victim identified as Mercy Garcia, 30, married, resident of Barangay Tarece.

Garcia was with her 17-year old cousin Joven Garcia, who was behind the wheel.

After blocking the vehicle, one suspect immediately pointed a gun at the victims while the two others shot the front wheels of the pick-up and forcibly took the victim’s bag.

Aside from the cash, Garcia also lost blank checks, cellular phone and identification cards.

Recovered from the crime scene were five fired cartridge cases of  .9 mm handgun and one fired cartridge of cal .45.

Police investigators said the day before the incident, a similar attempt took place in Malasiqui, but Garcia and her companion fortunately got away unscathed.#
