Mother and child in new salad-making tilt
In the past, it is the mother who traditionally prepares food for her child.
It was the reverse in the unique Mother-and-Child Salad Making Contest sponsored by City Supermarket Inc. and food firm Ladies Choice on Tuesday at the CSI City Mall.
The contest, co-sponsored by the city government as part of the Dagupan City Fiesta, relegated the mother to mere spectator while her child made a salad dressing for her, said City Nutrition Officer Lea Aquino.
In this unique contest, it was the children who prepared the salad while their mothers waited for the serving.
The event was witnessed by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, CSI president and general manager, who said the contest was one way of preparing the child at an early age in culinary arts and in self discipline.
There were about 50 mother and child contestants from various parts of the city, bringing along their respective condiments to be made into very palatable salad dish.
The child contestants were all pre-schoolers aged five to seven.
The winners were Brigida Fontanilla and her son John Iccus, first prize; Charo Balolong and son, Emman, second prize; and Julie de Guzman and son Jhesly Raine, third prize.
The first prize winners brought home P5,000 cash and P5,000 worth of gift certificates, the second prize P3,500 cash and P3.500 worth of gift certificates and third prize P2,500 cash and P2,500 worth of gift certificates.—LM
