MAYOR Alipio Fernandez Jr. pledged anew to build a modern training and processing center for bangus deboning and packaging that will employ women from the Gawad Kalinga housing project.

Fernandez said the center seeks to produce processed bangus for household consumption and for the export market to enable the country to earn much-needed foreign exchange.

“Livelihood training is incorporated in our development goals. It is our defined priority,” he said.

Fernandez spoke on Thursday during the launching of the Department of Agriculture and Gawad Kalinga agricultural livelihood development program on urban gardening and bangus deboning.

This was attended by officials of the regional field unit of the Department of Agriculture, City Agriculture Office and GK.

The officials distributed implements and raw materials worth P100,000.00 to women beneficiaries in GK Bangusville.

Mayor Fernandez challenged the residents to seize the opportunity to transform GK Bangusville into a model community where families utilize God-given resources, nurture Christian values and practice responsible parenting.

“Let us change people’s perceptions on slums.  Keep your community clean, your homes conforming to city and GK standards, and lush with greeneries,” he said.

He likewise urged women and children to plant vegetables and plants in gardens or pots right in their backyard to augment every family’s regular income.
