Celebrating innocence

AS A predominantly Catholic country where Christmas is touted to be celebrated the longest in the world with carols already being played as early as September, kindness is expected all around at the peak of this season.

At this time of the year, spirituality and kinship take the front seat over mundane activities. We calm down as we remember the child Jesus who was born to the world and what he would later in life teach the world: faith, hope and love. Even for non-Catholics and non-Christians, the birth of Jesus stands as a touching and timeless story that reminds us of the delight of the gift of a child – the simple pleasures of childhood and of the joy of innocence.

And so we set aside politics for a short while as we celebrate the miracle of life, as exemplified by the Holy Family at a humble manger. Christmas is about making merry, not necessarily extravagantly, in what is most important – family love, friendships, and our bond as children of God.

A meaningful Christmas to all from your Sunday PUNCH family!

Guilty

THE anointer is now practically in jail.  The anointed has been impeached.

The swift executions of both were like the handiwork of the fastest draw in town in a cowboy film. Done a la Django.

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the anointer, got barred from leaving the country, was charged with electoral sabotage and is now under hospital arrest. Her anointed Chief Justice, Renato Corona, could not even complete a Swat-like rescue of his damsel in distress, his TRO getting blunted by a mere judge of a regional trial court.  Worst, Corona would next see himself impeached by Congress for his being allegedly a midnight appointee by GMA, for partiality and betrayal of public trust.

Did Noynoy lack compassion in dealing with the ailing former President?  Was he being arrogant, in the process bullying Corona and, therefore, disrespectful of his co-equal?

We find him guilty on all counts.
