Guv Spines should solve parking problem in Manaoag

Al S. Mendoza

NOW here’s one worth our while.

Among us Roman Catholics, we go to Manaoag to pray for the good graces that our Lord Jesus Christ may bestow upon us through Mother Mary.

Many Manaoag devotees keep their vows to visit Our Lady of Manaoag on a regular basis.

A friend of mine living in Manila goes to Manaoag every Saturday.

Another Manila-based friend of mine goes to Manaoag every once in two weeks.

Another friend of mine does his visit once in a month, every first Saturday of the month.

Still another friend of mine, who is from faraway Quezon Province, has kept his vow with his wife to motor to Manaoag every last Saturday of the month.

This couple started their visit long before their son became a lawyer.

“We prayed at the shrine of our Lady of Manaoag that she will give our son the chance to become a lawyer,” they told me.

They motored to Manaoag every weekend before their son took the bar exams.

“If our son would pass the bar, we will not miss a single Saturday of the year in giving praise to our Lady of Manaoag,” said the mother.

Their prayer was answered.  The son passed the bar.  He is now a lawyer and, by way of acknowledging Mother Mary’s help, the good son would regularly waive his lawyer’s fees.

I know.  The lawyer has become my wedding godson.  I now have two “apos” from him.

While I was in Baguio during the recent Fil-Am golf (I was a Rules Official there for two weeks), Des Bautista, whose family owns the University of Baguio, said to me, “Your Mareng Auring and I are devotees of our Lady of Manaoag.  Please call the attention of Guv Spines to make a massive improvement to ensure that parking areas for Manaoag visitors are finally put in place?”

What a brilliant suggestion, indeed.

Along this line, may I call now on the mayor of Manaoag to really do some serious assessment about the matter so that the parking woes of our Manaoag visitors would soon become a thing of the past?

If I know Manaoag, it is the most visited place in Pangasinan, if not in the entire Northern Luzon, for the miracles generously given to visitors by our Mother Mary.

In my own experience each time I bring my family there to pray to Mother Mary, I always find myself parking at the Petron station.  We don’t mind walking our way to the Church.

It helps that we usually do our voyage on a weekday, assuring us of a hassle-free stint at parking lot-hunting – almost.

So, will we soon see Guv Spines and the mayor of Manaoag mapping out plans to finally end our parking problem in the holiest town in all of Ilocandia?

Let’s roll up our sleeves and start the spade work, fellas.
