THE president of the Private School Principals League here assailed a chain of 24-hour convenience stores, with branches near schools in Dagupan City, for displaying and selling pornographic magazines

Pastor Mario Tomboc, head of the principals’ group, said 7-11, an international chain with a franchise in the Philippines, poses “a great threat and contrary to our moral values”for carrying in its stores the “Playboy” magazines and other similar publications.

Tomboc, in a letter to Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, he appealed to the city council for intervention.

The letter said the availability of the smut magazines in the stores and the students’ easy access to these “are harmful to the young minds, much more for the pupils and students of all schools here in the city…”

“We would like to inform our honorable Vice Mayor that we are against this ‘pornography’ and we consider this as a great threat and contrary to our moral values development program,” the letter reads.

Tomboc said his group believes that the magazine’s presence alone constitutes a moral issue.—Eva Visperas
