At long last, the construction of the first bridge span across Pantal River in Dagupan City will start by the middle of March this year.

According to Department of Public Works and Highways Director Fidel Ginez, the Toyo Construction of Japan will build the 780 lineal meter long bridge (including 120 lineal meter approach on the Dawel side and 240 lineal meter approach on the Lucao side).

Toyo won the public bidding for the construction of the bridge that will be financed by a P640 million loan by the Philippine government from Japan and which will to be released through the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.

Ginez told newsmen that P8.6 million was recently released to pay for the bridge’s needed right-of-way.

The bridge is expected to be finished in18 months or earlier.

At the same time, Ginez said the construction of the base of the Dawel-Pantal-Lucao road is now 95 per cent complete.

He said the unfinished five per cent of the work is on the Lucao side owing to the absence of a deed of sale transferring ownership of the land to the government.

Ginez is optimistic that deed of sale signed by April when the landowner returns from an overseas trip.

The concreting the Dawel-Pantal-Lucao road is expected to be completed by the third quarter of next year.

He said another exit on the Lucao side is being studied by the DPWH but its design and implementation will be ontingent on the funding to be made available by House Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr.

The other exit that will pass beside Nel-Ars subdivision to connect the Dawel-Pantal-Lucao road to theDe Venecia Highway was suggested by Mayor Benjamin Lim.
