Muñoz ouster, matter of time

EXCEPT for a few more formalities, Councilor Eric Muñoz may have already lost his seat as president of the Liga ng mga Barangay.

Barangay Captain Guilermo Vallejos of Poblacion Oeste, the man rumored to replace Munoz, confirmed that 25 of the 31 barangay captains of the city already signed the petition seeking the ouster of Munoz.

As of Friday, only six barangay captains have not signed the petition, namely from Pugaro, Herrero-Perez, Bonuan Gueset, Pogo Chico, Pogo Grande and Tambac.

The barangay captain of Pogo Grande did not yet sign because he is the secretary of Munoz in the Liga ng mga Barangay while Munoz is chairman of Tambac.

In their petition, the signatories manifested their disgust and disappointment over Munoz’ a performance as Liga ng mga Barangay president.

They also criticized Munoz for his frequent absences during sessions of the Sangguniang Panlungsod as an ex-officio councilor.

They said that Muñoz’ frequent absences in the SP jeopardized many barangay projects, delaying passage of as ordinances appropriating sums of money for the projects.

Vallejos also complainted that Munoz has not been regularly conducting Liga ng mga Barangay meetings, for defining solutions to problems of barangays.

“All these prompted us to make the petition,” Vallejos said as he noted that Muñoz’ absences during sessions have become more frequent.

Vallejos said the petition was forwarded to League of Barangay in the Philippines national president James Marty Lim for his endorsement and approval.

Procedurally, Lim will have to investigate the issues being hurled against Munoz by his fellow barangay captains before an endorsement can be obtained.

Once the petition is approved, Lim will order a new election to select the new officers of the local Liga ng mga Barangay.

Vallejos said he may run for president of the Liga since Barangay Captain Lino Fernandez served notice he may decline calls for him to run for president. –AQL
