Planned Sual shipping port needs P400 Million
SUAL–Some P400 million would be needed for the establishment of an international shipping port here, according to Mayor John Rodney Arcinue, quoting figures from the Philippine Ports Authority.
Arcinue said he and Governor Amado Espino Jr., the main proponent of the project, agreed that this is the minimum amount they intend to raise soon to make sure that the project will be completed within their terms in office for the next three years.
The establishment of an international shipping port is a joint vision of the provincial and the municipal governments.
“We and the provincial government are on the same direction as far as the establishment of an international shipping port here is concerned,” Arcinue said.
A study regarding the establishment of the Sual shipping port and where it would be best located in Sual Bay was conducted in 2003.
But the mayor said he continues to coordinate closely with Espino for identifying the most ideal site for the shipping port as they both foresee the international port to be a big boon to the economy of the whole of Pangasinan.
The mayor is optimistic that the proposed project could lead to the establishment of a complementary economic zone for the province.
Arcinue added that Sual would be an attractive site for investors as real estate prices here have yet to shoot up.
Sual hosts the 1,200-megawatt Sual Coal-fired Power Plant, owned by Team Energy Corporation, which will serve as the source of the power requirements of the proposed economic zone.—CSR
