Malasiqui team rules Mugenkai karatedo Cup

The Malasiqui karatekas emerged as the overall champion during the recent 2nd Mugenkai Karatedo Cup held at the Atrium of the CSI The City Mall.

The Malasiqui team brought home 10 gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze medals.

Coming in second overall was the Dagupan City team, followed by the Lingayen team.

Jessie Cacapit of the Mugenkai Martial Arts Association of Dagupan City said the tournament was participated in by 60 karatekas, headed by tournament director Sensei Michael Rivera.

There were two categories in the tournament, the kata and kumite.

In kata, Cacapit explained, there is no physical contact as the contestants are judged according to form, including timing, gracefulness and power of execution.

The kumite involves two karatekas engaged in sparring match.

Cacapit said that the participants used the Shorin Ryu style or the Okinawan style in the tournament.—CSR
