Donor wants donated land for drug center returned
BURGOS–Finish it or give it back.
This was the message of former Mayor Demetrio Cabiles to the provincial government on the two-hectare lot in barangay San Vicente he donated for a drug rehabilitation center that has remained unfinished after construction started in the late 1980s.
Burgos Mayor Domingo Doctor said in an interview with The PUNCH that the Cabiles family has signified their intent to reclaim the land and instead give it to the Pangasinan State University for its planned expansion program.
The rehab center project was initiated by lawyer Gonzalo Duque when he was vice governor, but when Duque finished his term, the project was not pursued by the succeeding administrations.
About P5 million had already been spent for the construction of the building.
Doctor said the Cabiles family is giving the provincial government until the first quarter next year to either complete the project or give back the land to them. #
