SAN FABIAN—A man was killed while his brother was wounded in another round of violence here, just more than two weeks after an Ombudsman investigator was shot and killed in cold blood.

The incident happened in barangay Nibaliw Vidal at about 6:15 p.m. of October 1 when two men on separate motorcycles shot and killed Sofronio Vidal, 42, and wounding his brother Mauro, 32.

The elder Vidal died on the spot from several gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.

His younger brother, a member of the Civilian Volunteer Organization, was wounded and rushed to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City for treatment.

The two were with their other brother, Norman Vidal, 41, a barangay councilman who was also shot at but he was able to run to safety.

The gunman used a Cal. 45 pistol as evidenced by empty shells and slugs found at the crime scene.

The Ombudsman investigator Alejo ‘Alex’ Dojillo, also of barangay Nibaliw Vidal, was also shot and killed by two men riding tandem on a motorcycle using a .45 pistol.

One of the suspects in the Vidal case is Dojillo’s younger brother Victor, alias Vic.

Victor and Alejo are sons of retired Regional Trial Court Judge Jaime Dojilo Sr.

Victor, who remains at large, was identified by some witnesses as one of the two perpetrators who were on board a yellow Honda TMX motorcycle.

The other suspect, identified as Nestor Querimit, 37, a native of Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur and now residing in Nibaliw Vidal, San Fabian, has been arrested in a pursuit operation conducted by police elements of San Fabian  led by Police Chief Inspector Chito Esmenda, OIC chief of police.

A verification made by the police showed that Querimit was a respondent in a complaint for murder in connection with the slaying of Menandro Montemayor of Malasiqui, Pangasinan on August 15, 2006.

The case was, however, dismissed by the Provincial Prosecution Office.

His companion Dojillo was able to elude arrest, possibly bringing with him the firearm he used in the shooting.

Investigation showed the victims were on their way home after coming from the house of their cousin, Jovanigo Vidal, when the suspects opened fire.—LM
