STA. BARBARA—Gawad Kalinga has tied up with the municipal government here for the construction of 200 houses in a model agrarian reform community in barangay Leet.

Municipal Administrator Albertini de Guzman said the houses will be built in a 2.8 hectare land within barangay Leet donated to the municipality by the Department of Agrarian Reform.

De Guzman said under the plan, GK will put up 100 houses this year and another 100 next year.

The project was launched when Mayor Reynaldo Velasco and De Guzman attended the GK National Summit at the Ateneo de Manila University.

De Guzman said Velasco initially proposed just 24 houses but GK officials increased this to 100 when they visited the project site last week.

Groundbreaking rites for the project was held on Saturday led by Velasco with provincial and DAR officials.

The groundbreaking rites coincided with the inauguration of several newly completed bridges, including the Minien-Leet hanging bridge, built at a cost of P370,000; Tebag-Leet hanging bridge,

P350,000; and Erfe-Leet bailey bridge, P200,000.
