Binalonan – Outstanding mayors can easily get their constituents’ “yes” votes for charter change.

Thus said League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) president Ramon Guico Jr. who said mayors in the country who have good relationship with their constituents can easily gather big number of  “yes” votes for the charter change (Chacha) signature campaign which started  last  Wednesday.

Guico, who is also the mayor of this town, said he is confident that he can easily win 50 percent of his town’s 24,000 voting population. He said his fellow mayors are also supportive of the move to amend the Constitution.

He pointed out that the signature campaign, an initiative of the barangay leaders, will not be subsidized by the government.

The town mayor, relative of President Arroyo, has proposed to the   Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines, the umbrella organization of leagues of local government officials, only one question that should be asked the people – “Do you favor charter change?”.

As of press time, Guico said they are still waiting for the forms to be distributed to the people for their response.

This is a question he said that would easily be understood by all.

He added that the “No-Election” provision should not be included among the issues since he believed this would only create confusion, strong opposition and chaos. –EVA
