Dad: Floods can be stopped
A CITY councilor believes that even if Dagupan is situated one meter below sea level, the perennial flooding problem can be solved.
Councilor Karlos Reyna, a licensed engineer, sought the presence of City Engineer Virginia Rosario in the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s (SP) next session to brief members on the flooding problem in the city, usually blamed on heavy rains aggravated by the rise of tide.
Reyna wants Rosario to assist the council in identifying solutions, determining the financial requirements, and drafting the necessary SP resolutions.
At the same time, Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, presiding officer of the council, also sought the presence of officials of the Department of Education in the next session to provide an assessment of how badly schools in the city are affected by floods in their locations.
She said the sight of students and pupils in the Dagupan City National High School, Carael, Bacayao Sur and Bonuan Boquig attending classes in flooded school premises is a cause for serious concern.
Meanwhile, Reyna hailed an announcement from the Department of Public Works and Highways that it has made available some P20 million to raise a portion of the Tapuac-Lucao road by one meter an 800-meter.—LM
