LINGAYEN–The mosquito-borne dengue fever has killed seven in the province and 402 others have been afflicted in the last seven months of the year, according to the data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

These numbers, however, are down by half from the same period last year with 15 deaths and 499 confirmed cases.

Dr. Ana Teresa de Guzman, officer- in-charge of the PHO, said the significant decrease reflects their successful efforts to contain the disease even as they continue to aim for zero deaths.

“We are on a close watch because our aim is to have zero mortality,” De Guzman said.

A provincial Dengue Task Force continuously conducts community dialogues and house-to-house visits to educate the people and to caution the people against self-treatment of the disease.

The provincial health office is also implementing a year- round information dissemination program, tapping all barangay health workers and public school teachers to help in their campaign.

The latest fatality this year was a seven-year old boy from Barangay Bacag, Villasis.

The other fatalities, whose ages range from five years old to 75, came from the towns of Dasol, Anda, Malasiqui, Mangaldan Lingayen, and Urdaneta City. #
