BINALONAN–The local office of the National Food Authority (NFA) has given reassurance that rice supply is stable and that the selling price at government retail outlets is stable at P18 per kilogram.

Ramon Cuaresma, NFA assistant manager at the NFA office based in this town, said 190,000 bags of rice are expected to arrive from Thailand and Vietnam beginning the end-August until September.

Cuaresma said NFA teams are also continuously monitoring the 130 outlets of Bigasan ni Gloria sa Palengke to ensure that retailers are keeping prices at P18 per kilogram.

These outlets have already received 290,000 bags of rice out of their total yearly allocation of 450,000 bags.

The imported supply from Thailand and Vietnam will supplement the current standby supply of 30,000 bags.

“Despite the prolonged dry spell, there’s nothing to worry about because we have enough rice supply,” Cuaresma said.

Should there be a delay in harvest towards the end of the year, Cuaresma said they already have a standing authority to continue sourcing from other countries. #
