Cattle rustling leaders nabbed
LINGAYEN–The police scored major hits this week with the arrest of four leaders of organized crime groups involved mostly in cattle rustling.
In a press conference Wednesday, Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez, provincial police director, said the separate arrests were carried out by provincial police forces in tandem with the Ilocos region force.
Those nabbed include Romeo Ramos, alias Ponso or Niño, Arthur Tabor, Rey Quitaleg and Alfredo Gonzales.
Ramos is the suspected leader of the Ramos cattle rustling group, an organized crime group/criminal gang engaged in cattle rustling activities in San Carlos City and in the towns of Malasiqui, Basista, Urbiztondo, Bayambang, Sta. Barbara and in other parts of Pangasinan.
Ramos, who is wanted for murder and attempted murder that accompanied his cattle rustling activities, was caught at his residence in San Carlos City on August 14. Seized from him were one M16 armalite rifle, three long magazines for M16 rifle, 35 rounds of live ammunition for M16 and one bandoleer.
Tabor, a native of Bani is the suspected leader of the Tabor Group involved in pawnshop, bank, money changer and highway robberies, as well as cattle rustling operations in Bani, Agno and Bolinao and parts of the Ilocos region.
He was arrested for attempted homicide and two more cases of robbery.
Meanwhile, Quitaleg and Gonzales, both from San Carlos City, were caught during an anti-cattle rustling operation in Urbiztondo.
The police recovered two female cows and one male cow from the suspects.
Nerez said there is a possibility that Ramos, Gonzales and Quitaleg belong to the same group.
He said that even as the number of cattle rustling incidents has already significantly reduced, the campaign will continue without letup.
The police are also pursuing leads to identify the buyers of slaughtered meat sold by cattle rustlers. The meat from the stolen farm animals are reportedly sold at a low of P40 per kilo against the P140-P160 per kilo price of regular meat. #
