THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) has expressed concern over the increase in the number of road accidents in the province in  2025.

PPO  urged the community to exercise caution and to be prepared when they leave their homes.

P/Capt. Aileen Catugas, the Public Information Officer of the Pangasinan PPO, remarked that based on comparative statistics, the number of traffic incidents this year has surpassed the number of road accidents recorded in 2024.

From January 1 to December 22 of 2024, there were 1,852 incidents reported, whereas in the corresponding period this year, the number has escalated to 2,299.

P/Capt. Catugas noted that the primary factor behind these accidents is human error, including speeding, unsafe overtaking, and unqualified drivers.

The statistics also reveal that the majority of recorded Vehicular Traffic Incidents resulted in property damage, followed by incidents causing physical injuries and those leading to fatalities.

In 2025, the cases of property damage increased to 967, in contrast to 794 in 2024.

In terms of physical injuries, the number reached 1,149 in 2025 compared to 863 in the previous year.

The Pangasinan Police reminded the public to be prepared for their trips, not only by checking their vehicles but also by ensuring their safety as they welcome the new year. (Kim Gealogo)
