THE local government unit of Manaoag held a Unity Walk on Monday, December 22, in observance of World AIDS Celebration 2025, underscoring its call to end stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV and AIDS.

The activity, which started at 4 p.m. at the Presidencia Grounds, was participated in by local officials, health workers, and community members as a show of solidarity and public awareness.

Organizers said the Unity Walk aimed to promote understanding and acceptance by addressing persistent stigma surrounding HIV and AIDS, which remains a major barrier to prevention, testing, and treatment.

The program also featured a candlelighting ceremony and an educational lecture led by the PINAS Unit of the Region 1 Medical Center, focusing on correcting misconceptions about HIV transmission and emphasizing evidence-based prevention and care.

As part of the day’s activities, the LGU also selected the PRIDE Manaoag Ambassador 2025, who will serve as a local advocate for HIV awareness and prevention initiatives in the municipality. (Ahikam Pasion)
