Dagupan honors SEA Games wushu champ Agatha Wong
THE Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod has adopted a resolution commending and congratulating Ms. Agatha Wong, whose roots trace back to Dagupan City, for her remarkable achievements at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, where she secured two gold medals in the women’s wushu events of Taijijian and Taijiquan.
Sponsored by Councilor Bradley Claude Benavides, the resolution hailed Wong, 27, as a model of excellence for the Philippines in international sports.
A granddaughter of Dagupan’s Dr. Winnie Fernandez, Wong has claimed six SEA Games golds across 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023, solidifying her place among the country’s top wushu athletes.
Her sustained excellence in the sport showcases her exceptional skills, discipline, perseverance, and unwavering dedication to achievement, as highlighted in the resolution.
Wong’s accomplishments resonate deeply within the Dagupeño community, serving as a source of pride and inspiration for both the youth and aspiring athletes.
Her outstanding performance has significantly bolstered the Philippines’ medal tally at the 33rd SEA Games, enhancing the nation’s reputation in the wushu arena across the region.
In a separate resolution, Councilor Librada Reyna recognized John Matthew Manantan for winning bronze in karate (-67 kg kumite) at the 2025 SEA Games, and has represented the country in numerous international events, including securing a silver medal in the same category at the 2023 SEA Games, further highlighting Dagupan City’s commitment to nurturing world-class athletes.
