THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has released a list of 31 prohibited fireworks to help ensure public safety during the holiday season.

The banned items are being closely monitored by the Explosive Management Division of the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office, citing the dangers posed by illegal and hazardous pyrotechnics.

Among those prohibited are Watusi, Lolo Thunder, boga, pla-pla, piccolo, Goodbye Philippines, Goodbye Delima, Giant Bawang, Goodbye Napoles, Atomic Bomb, Bin Laden, Super Lolo, Goodbye Bading, Super Yolanda, Goodbye Chismosa, and King Kong.

Also banned are overweight fireworks containing more than 0.2 grams of gunpowder, oversized firecrackers, and those with fuses that burn faster than three seconds, which pose a high risk of injury.

The prohibition likewise covers imported firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices (FCPD), unlabeled fireworks, and items similar to those already listed.

Under Republic Act 7183, violators may face imprisonment of six months to one year and corresponding fines.

The PNP urged the public to comply with the law to prevent accidents and injuries, adding that enforcement and monitoring will be intensified to ensure a safe and peaceful holiday celebration. (Ahikam Pasion)
