Sto. Tomas Barangay Council refutes ‘Ghost Project’ claim
THE Barangay Council of Sto. Tomas in San Jacinto has flatly denied allegations raised by Jaime Aquino accusing officials of allowing a “ghost flood control project” in their area.
In a statement issued through Barangay Resolution No. 12, Series of 2025, the council stressed that all flood control and infrastructure projects undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Sto. Tomas are “complete, functional, and built according to approved plans and standards.”
Council members said the projects—including flood mitigation works, drainage improvements, and slope protection structures—went through proper evaluation and have since proven effective in protecting the barangay against flooding and damage brought by severe weather.
The council also dismissed documents linked to Aquino that supposedly pertained to the questioned project. It labeled the papers as fabricated, saying these were not official barangay records, were never brought up in any session, and bore no signature of the Barangay Captain—rendering them invalid.
Officials expressed appreciation to the DPWH for its continued infrastructure support and maintained that the accusations circulating in the community are “baseless and irresponsible.”
“The projects were properly planned, implemented, and are serving their intended purpose. There is no truth to the accusations being made,” the council said in its resolution.
Sto. Tomas officials assured residents they remain committed to transparency and accountability in all barangay development efforts, urging the public not to be misled by false claims. (Ahikam Pasion)
