Kiko Barzaga’s Five
By Gonzalo Duque
THE November 30 rally called A Trillion Peso March led by Tindig ng Pilipinas convenor Kiko Aquino Dee, a grandson of Ninoy and Cory Aquino, and the arch-enemy of Sara Duterte, did not produce the result expected by the left-leaning group, the Pinklawans, Yellowtards and members of the Catholic clergy.
But two days after the rally, a more exciting matter happened.
The House of Representatives, led by Congressman J.C. Abalos, chairman of the House Ethics committee, suspended Congressman Kiko Barzaga of Cavite for 60 days without pay, for his alleged disorderly behavior.
Only five congressmen voted against the report of the Ethics Committee. These are Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Legarda Leviste, SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta Jr., Kamanggawa Party-list Rep. Eli San Fernando, Bagong Henerasyon Party-list Rep. Robert Nazal, and Quezon City 4th District Rep. Bong Suntay.
Rep. Leviste said it all when he stated that the House of Representatives should not prioritize itself with a non-issue, and instead focus on identifying those who have caused embarrassment to our country because of rampant graft and corruption.
I understood that eight other congressmen abstained from voting to penalize Congressman Barzaga. But our admiration goes to the five who registered a negative vote on the suspension of Barzaga.
With what happened, we can easily distinguish or lump the pro and anti-Marcos together and consider them as an egg because their only agenda is to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte.
To me, Congressman Kiko Barzaga and the other five can now start a movement calling for clean and honest governance in our country.
They can be credible because our people are aware that we now have young leaders who are willing to sacrifice any material thing they may get from the House of Representa-thieves, o, I mean, House of Representatives.
Let us not forget the names of Congressmen Leviste, Marcoleta, San Fernando, Nazal and Suntay. May their tribe increase!
If they decide soon to form a new political party, I would gladly join them. Goodbye trapos!

The Christmas season is now on. But it seems that the season is not felt by many of our people, specifically by those who became victims of the different calamities that hit our country.
The only reminder that the Christmas season is on is when we listen to the soothing Christmas songs of Jose Mari Chan, particularly “Christmas is in the heart”.
Other than that, the gloomy spirit of Christmas is affecting us. To tell you frankly, my dear readers, I find it hard to express my feelings for the Christmas season, knowing that many of our countrymen are suffering because of the political and economic factors, and the loss of trust and confidence of our people in the government.

The offer of PBBM to reconcile with Sara so our country can move forward is a playbook borrowed from the time of his father, the late President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos before he declared martial law.
The older Marcos, before he declared martial law, extended his invitation to the various members of the opposition, headed by Senators Benigno Aquino Jr., with Jovito Salonga, Lorenzo Tanada, Jose W. Diokno, Eva Estrada Kalaw, as members, coaxing them to join him in putting up a unity government because of the political and economic crisis happening in the country then.
When they refused his offer, he declared martial law and arrested everybody.
Can this happen during the time of PBBM?
Are we seeing darker days ahead for those who oppose PBBM?
Or, are we seeing Sara Duterte getting impeached?
Let’s wait and see!
