SSS launches MySSS Card

THE Social Security System (SSS) has launched the MySSS Card, a new government-issued identification card equipped with an EMV chip and debit card functionality.

Designed to replace the old UMID card, the MySSS Card promises to streamline access to benefits and provide a more modern way of managing member accounts.

The MySSS Card not only serves as an official ID but also functions as a personal ATM and bank account. The card is issued in partnership with the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) and requires identity verification through the national e-verifier system.

In an interview over Aksyon Radyo, Jocelyn Lim, Assistant Branch Head of SSS-Dagupan, said the MySSS Card is valid for transactions within the SSS but will not be automatically accepted by other institutions, as the PhilSys National ID remains the primary government-issued ID.

Despite the new card’s features, all previously issued SSS IDs, including the digitized blue card and UMID, remain valid.

To apply for the MySSS Card, members must have a permanent SSS number, an active MySSS online portal account, and updated contact information, including mobile number, email, and address. Additionally, applicants must have a PhilSysrecord.

Lim emphasized that the new card is linked to PhilSys, so individuals who do not have a National ID capture will be ineligible to apply, even if they possess other valid IDs. Members’ personal details in the PhilSys and SSS systems must match before proceeding with the application. (Ahikam Pasion)
