A mediation meant to defuse a marital dispute ended in violence Wednesday evening when a woman was allegedly stabbed by her husband in Barangay Inlambo, Mangaldan.

Police said the incident happened around 6:30 PM on November 19, shortly after the couple attended a 5:30 PM mediation session at the barangay hall regarding their marital problems.

Initial investigation showed the 43-year-old victim had boarded a yellow Rusi motorcycle driven by her brother after the mediation. The 50-year-old suspect reportedly trailed them and attacked the victim in a narrow alley on their way home, stabbing her several times before fleeing.

The victim sustained stab wounds to her left chest, abdomen, and left arm. She was rushed to the R1MC Annex Hospital in Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City, where she remains under treatment.

A hot pursuit operation was launched, but a few hours later, the suspect sought help from a kagawad in Barangay Binloc, Dagupan City, to surrender.

The barangay official turned him over to the Mangaldan police.

Authorities are preparing charges as the investigation continues. (Eva Visperas)
