Calasiao LGU employees undergo surprise mandatory drug test
A total of 854 employees of the Calasiao municipal government underwent a surprise mandatory drug test on November 3, 2025, as part of the LGU’s effort to maintain a drug-free and accountable public workforce.
The testing, conducted during the weekly flag-raising ceremony, covered all officials and employees, including Mayor Patrick Agustin Caramat, the vice mayor, and members of the Sangguniang Bayan. An independent drug testing service facilitated the activity.
Mayor Caramat said the initiative complies with DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2018-213 and CSC Memorandum Circular No. 13, series of 2017, which require random and mandatory drug testing in local government units.
“This is one of our steps to ensure security and public trust. We want to assure our people that those serving in the LGU are not using illegal drugs,” Caramat said.
He clarified that the move was not prompted by any complaint but was a proactive measure to promote professionalism and accountability in government service.
If an employee tests positive, Caramat said a confirmatory test will be conducted, and any verified result may lead to an administrative case or dismissal.
Employees expressed support for the program. Human Resource Office staff Christian Navarro said the initiative reassures the public that LGU workers are clean and trustworthy.
Caramat added that similar activities will be continued and may later include other sectors in the municipality. (Eva Visperas)
