Upgraded Dagupan police office to have 700 personnel
THE upgrading of the Dagupan City Police into a City Police Office, Class C, will be a big boon in the maintenance of peace and order as it will have a personnel strength of more than 700, five times more than its present 153 personnel.
P/Lt. Colonel Lawrence Keith Calub, chief of the Dagupan City police, said the upgraded status will enable the local police to answer the needs of the people of Dagupan at a much faster pace.
Speaking during the TV Program Bantay Dagupan over at Kabaleyan Channel 17 on Wednesday, Calub said the City Police Office will have its own City Police Mobile Force, made up of members of SWAT, AOD and K-9 units.
The upgraded status of the Dagupan police was approved in a resolution promulgated early this year by the National Police Commission and will take effect in 2026.
Calub said that as a City Police Office, it can be compared to the Baguio City Police Office, which is independent of the Benguet Police Provincial Office.
The Dagupan Police will construct five separate police stations in various strategic areas, with the sites to be identified by the Dagupan City.
Among the sites being considered are Caranglaan, Bolosan, Lucao, Calmay, Bonuan, and the present police station in Barangay Poblacion Oeste.
Additionally, according to Calub, there will be a traffic Enforcement Unit and a mobile unit that will assist the city’s Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) in maintaining smooth vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
“All in all, there will be increased personnel, armaments, resources and increased investigative capacity,” Calub said. (Leonardo Micua)
