500 students benefit from Cayetano educational assistance

SOME 500 students from  Calasiao received educational assistance on September 30 from the offices of siblings Senators  Alan  Peter and Pia Cayetano, in cooperation with the municipal government.

The Calasiao local government said the recipient students went through a screening process for the special fund, separate from the  Scholarship Program of LGU Calasiao whose beneficiaries are still undergoing the evaluation process. (Mathew Pacheco)

Environmentalists continue appeal to provincial government: Spare those trees 

ENVIRONMENTAL advocates as well as residents of Lingayen slammed the expected mass cutting of some 200 age-old trees at the  Pangasinan Provincial Capitol compound in Lingayen to give way to the Capitol Redevelopment Program of Governor Ramon Guico III.

In an interview by iFM 104.7 Dagupan, Celso Salazar, president and founder of the Pangasinan Native Trees Enthusiasts Association, said that if the province cannot be prevented from cutting those trees, it should at least spare the lives of 35 native trees. (Aaron Navelgas)

Smoke-free, vape-free Pangasinan sought 

REPRESENTATIVES from 28 towns and cities of Pangasinan participated in the three-day Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Training at Clark, Pampanga.

This was the second  batch of local government representatives from Pangasinan that attended the convention  aimed at raising awareness on the goal to make Pangasinan a “Smoke-Free: and Vape-Free province.”  The convention intends to broaden the awareness of officials and health workers on Provincial  Ordinance No. 317-2024 or the Comprehensive Smoke-Free Ordinance, in line with the global MPOWER strategy of the World Health Organization. Dipalo Eco Park earns P434K in September 

THE Dipalo Eco Park in San Quintin, owned by the municipal government, increased its earnings in September at P434,000, almost twice as much its August income of P234,000.

The income comes from the P20 entrance fee charged per visitor, up from only P5 previously. All earnings from the park directly go to the municipal treasury and are released back for the park’s maintenance. (Jam Victorio)

1,000 Dagupan families receive BBM’s financial assistance program

SOME 1,000 families in Dagupan City each received ₱10,179 cash aid from the program Handog  ng Pangulo: Tulong at Serbisyo last October 3 during a payout at the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome.

The program is part of the  Emergency Cash Transfer being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), intended for families severely affected by the prolonged monsoon rains as well as Typhoons Krising, Dante at Emong. (Nil Moyano)

150 households in San Nicolas to receive free electrification 

The San Nicolas local government is set to provide free electrification to households using solar energy, with 120 families as the first beneficiaries, selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

Demand for pork, chicken meat increasing 

MEAT vendors at the Malimgas Public Market noted increased demand for pork and chicken meat starting in October, and this is seen to continue until December, at which time a slight price increase is expected.

It is during the last quarter of the year when there are more households buying pork and chicken meat. To date, pork is pegged at P360 per kilo and chicken at P200 per kilo. (Joana de Vera)

Calasiao forms flood mitigation council

CALASIAO Mayor Patrick Caramat signed an executive order creating the Calasiao Flood Mitigation Council that will plan and recommend programs to address the perennial flooding problem.

Mangaldan police zeroes in on motorcycle riders 

THE Mangaldan Municipal Police has intensified Oplan Sita to maintain peace and order as well as ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

In Anolid, Mangaldan, policemen are flagging down motorcycle riders to check on their registration papers and find out if these correspond to their respective plate numbers, and issue citation tickets if they are found to be violating municipal ordinances. (Dennisse Brillante)

Dagupan’s Tech-Vic college opening set 

DAGUPAN’S Technical Vocational College, which will offer free livelihood courses to members of the youth who opted not to or cannot afford to go to college, is set to open soon.

With the help of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Education (DepEd), and Public Employment Service Office (PESO), livelihood courses in the upcoming Tech-Voc college will be free to all interested youth. (Joana de Vera)
