Sta. Barbara LGU to meet with NIA on damaged projects
THE local government of Sta. Barbara will call a meeting with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) to discuss the damage to several infrastructure projects contributing to the flooding in the municipality.
Ray Santos, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), said one of the primary sources of flooding is water flowing downstream from upstream areas, while overflowing irrigation systems in Barangay Tebag also contribute to the situation.
The floodwaters are originating from the river in Urdaneta City.
He also noted that Zone 1 in Barangay Payas, a residential area, is flood-prone as it is at the same level as nearby agricultural fields and roads.
Barangay Maninding is also facing flooding caused by irrigation water, while in Barangay Leet, the situation is exacerbated by a damaged flood control project.
Ray Santos emphasized that they have already reported the damage, with floodwaters rising to up to meters in some areas, and the MDRRMO conducted sandbagging operations to mitigate further damage and disruption. (Ahikam Pasion)
