Pangasinan universities earn spots in 2025 World Innovation Rankings

NINE universities in Pangasinan have achieved a major milestone by earning spots in the 2025 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), which assesses the real contributions to industry and society of higher education institutions (HEIs), with focus on innovative education, research, and social engagement.

Out of the 18 institutions from Region 1 recognized in the global rankings, nine are based in Pangasinan, with many landing in the Global Top 400 Innovative Universities.

Top-Performing Pangasinan HEIs in the WURI 2025 Global Rankings include:

  • Urdaneta City University (UCU) – Ranked 44th worldwide, the highest in the region and No. 1 in the Philippines for innovation. UCU also led key categories such as, Industrial Application, Student Mobility & Openness, and SDG-Based Responses to Global Challenges
  • Panpacific University in Urdaneta City – 194th globally and recognized as 4th in the world and 2nd in the Philippines in Ethics and Integrity
  • Lyceum-Northwestern University (Dagupan City) – 176th worldwide
  • Pangasinan State University (PSU) – 276th worldwide; host of the recent ASEAN Conference where the rankings were announced
  • University of Luzon (Dagupan City) – 288th globally
  • Philippine College of Science and Technology (PhilCST) in Calasiao – 369th globally
  • Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) in San Carlos City – 370th globally
  • University of Eastern Pangasinan in Binalonan town – 398th globally

At a press conference during the Timpuyog: ASEAN Conference hosted by PSU–Lingayen, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 1 Director Dr. Christine Ferrer praised the province’s universities for transforming global perceptions of education outside Metro Manila.

“These rankings show that Pangasinan is home to globally competitive universities that are embracing innovation and addressing real-world challenges,” she said. “This recognition not only elevates our schools but also provides our students with more opportunities for international collaboration and career readiness.”

Ferrer also noted that CHED is actively mentoring more institutions to help them reach international benchmarks and maintain upward momentum.
