ABONO Party-list’s Estrella secures House seat
THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has officially proclaimed the Pangasinan-based ABONO Party-list as one of the winners in the May 2025 elections, entitling its nominee, Robert Raymund Estrella, to a seat in the House of Representatives.
In a statement following the proclamation, ABONO expressed gratitude to its supporters, saying it was “humbled by the support and trust” it continues to receive from agriculture, education, and health sectors.
“This victory belongs to every farmer, teacher, and health worker who rises before dawn and who toils under the sun to feed and nurture the Filipino people,” the group said.
The party-list also highlighted recent legislative gains for the agriculture sector, citing the passage of Republic Act 12308 or the Animal Industry Development and Competitiveness L
“It was a journey of collaborative work with the livestock industry and allied sectors for the past six years,” ABONO noted, vowing to pursue more partnerships with farmers, educators, and health advocates in the next three years.
ABONO emphasized that its fresh mandate was another opportunity to push for the welfare of its constituents in Congress.
ABONO’s win came alongside the proclamation of Alfred Co delos Santos of the Ang Probinsyano Party-list and Arthur Cua Yap of the Murang Kuryente Party-list. These groups were allocated the three congressional seats left vacant following the cancellation of the Duterte Youth Party-list’s registration.
In its September 30 ruling, the COMELEC en banc voided Duterte Youth’s accreditation, declaring its registration legally infirm and invalid from the start.
Founded in Pangasinan, ABONO has long championed the interests of farmers and agricultural workers. Estrella’s return to the House is seen as reinforcing the voice of agriculture and rural constituencies in national policymaking. (Eva Visperas)
