24 flood control projects in Dagupan validated

ALL 24 flood mitigation projects carried out by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Dagupan City have been validated to be on track and serving their purpose, according to Mayor Belen Fernandez.

A team from the city inspected the projects on September 22, comprising the mayor, City Engineer Josephine Corpuz, Chief of Police Lt. Colonel Lawrence Keith Caleb, and Ronald de Guzman, Chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Their findings verified an earlier statement of 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia that there are no “ghost” nor substandard projects in the district.

Using documents provided by the DPWH on the location of these projects, the team spoke with barangay captains and residents, who attested that these projects prevented worse floods that had affected the city.

“These projects are not just infrastructures — they are lifelines that will protect families, homes, and livelihoods in our city,” said Fernandez.

She added that she will continue to request more similar projects from the DPWH to the Sumbong sa Pangulo website  and De Venecia, again emphasizing that Dagupan is the catch basin of water from the mountains of Benguet that passes through the Sinocalan and Pantal rivers before emptying into the Lingayen Gulf.  (Leonardo Micua)
